Hello everyone! My name is Avery Jones. I am currently attending the College of Southern Nevada. In the future I aspire to become a real estate agent. But for now, I am an Assistant Manager at Domino's. Outside of work, I love to do ceramics, draw, go to the gym, and hike.
This is my first year attending college and so far my favorite part about CSN is the teachers! For each of my classes, every teacher is very nice and funny; I could tell that they really enjoy their job! As for IS101, I was daunted by the amount of assignments + the additional assignments from my four other classes + my job. I was unsure I would be able to balance it all at once, Thankfully, the work is not too bad if you plan accordingly.
The skill I decided to choose was 1.3.9 Formatting and Sending Messages. Ever since my youth, I was taught how to properly send professional emails. My teachers taught me how to change the font, size, color, and layout of the text. I learned how to include subjects, proper introduction, properly formatted body paragraphs, and a signature.
I look forward to advancing in this class! This is definitely material I will use in the future.

ReplyDeleteYes, proper planning definitely helps in balancing one's many obligations, both academically and professionally. Remember to include doing ceramic, drawing, hitting the gym, and hiking too!
With your work ethic demonstrated in the first few weeks of IS101-3005, Spring 2026, I see you evolving beyond an assistant manager into a real estate agent -- and anything else you devote your time and energy to ^_^
Hi Avery, I am honestly amazed that you work as an assistant manager at Domino’s. Customer service is one of the hardest jobs because people can be rude for no reason. I respect that you deal with that and still stay focused on school. Being a manager already takes a lot of time and responsibility. If you are also a full time student taking at least 12 units, that leaves very little free time. Full time classes alone already feel heavy, and adding work on top of that is intense. I sometimes struggle just balancing my classes, so I can imagine how packed your schedule must be. It is impressive that you are managing both at the same time.
ReplyDeleteHello Avery, being a full-time manager and going to school full-time is a huge feat! When I chose to return to school I took on a part-time job to free up time for homework. I have also had a really great experience with my professors at CSN. When educators decide to go above and beyond to make the classroom a fun environment it makes a difference. It seems as though you are very driven to complete your education, I hope it remains easy to continue the balance.

ReplyDeleteAlso, your topic about formatting and sending professional emails is a really important skill too. Even though it may seem simple, knowing how to write a clear and professional email makes a big difference when communicating with professors or in a work environment.
Hello Avery, we have very similar interests! I can't believe you go to school and work full time! You seem to be a very well planned person. Knowing how to email professionally with the correct signatures and knowing how to format is definitely crucial information to know for the future. Good luck with your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Avery! It is great to meet you. As an engineering student, I also felt a bit daunted by the workload at first, but I agree that planning accordingly makes it much more manageable. Your experience as an Assistant Manager at Domino's and your goal to become a real estate agent are both roles where professional communication is key. The skills in Formatting and Sending Messages are definitely something you will use every day in those fields. It is awesome that you are also finding time for hobbies like ceramics and hiking while balancing your busy schedule!

Hi Avery! I understand that balancing classes, work, and assignments can be a little overwhelming at first. I’m glad you’ve been able to manage everything because otherwise it would be even more stressful. It’s great that you learned how to write professional emails from a young age this is definitely a skill we need now.

ReplyDeleteAvery, the way you have been able to balance both your job as a leader and your classes shows that you have excellent time management skills, as well as the ability to learn how to communicate effectively through digital media (which will be very important for you in your real estate career). Your enrollment in the IS101 course is just one example of your commitment to mastering these skills.

I remember when I was young I loved venturing from open house to open house and to think you can base a career off giving and selling families homes is very motivating knowing you're helping others. I agree the experience you can have for a class can make or break how much that professor truly loves what they do.
ReplyDeleteHi Avery, I want to say that having that position and going to school really conveys your drive, it's also nice to have some things to do to bring peace besides school and work. About your 1.3.9 I would say that I'm glad I know how to send an email, over time I learned the proper etiquette besides just sounding professional and learned the proper things after. Aside from that I hope that academics go your way, also use ratemyprofessor.com too if you haven't just so you keep the good teacher streak going!

ReplyDeleteHi Avery, it's impressive to be a Assistant Manager at a restaurant and go to school I'm assuming full-time? How often do you have to deal with angry customers? I worked at McDonald's for about 14 months and I would honestly refuse any managerial positions if I was offered because of having to deal with unhinged customers. Despite the struggles and the need to juggle your tasks around, you managed to stay disciplined, consistent, and great at managing. That's amazing!

Also, I like that you are keeping in shape by going to the gym and hiking, which is good to keep the mind and body focused.
