Final Stretch
Phase 2 was a lot different than my Phase 1. To be honest I fell quite behind on assignments and had a difficult time catching up. But I'm almost completely caught up now! The A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer was a great exercise to hone our abilities of reading a list of what is needed from us, and bringing it to life. This is one of the most helpful assignments I think I have ever been assigned. All of my other classes, K-12, spoon-feed students with extensive instructions, and give them little room to think for themselves in order to problem solve. This assignment was perfect for giving students creative liberty to design their workbooks how they want, while also completing the needed tasks at hand.
5.6.2 AutoFill Options is a very helpful tool. Without this tool, typing formulas would be tedious and more prone to mistakes. With the AutoFill tool, it allows users to drag an existing formula into neighboring cells in seconds! It will also update the formula to match with the contents of the new cells' row and column information. Very handy!
Phase 2 was definitely a great learning experience. I will apply mostly all the skills I learned from LabSim and learning activities to future business or school related projects. I will also make sure to learn from the mistakes I made in this class, such as falling behind. Finding the source of the problem and fixing/working around that will be helpful for future classes and other similar events.
In Phase 3 I hope I will be ahead of assignments and finish off strong!
Hi Avery, your reflection felt very honest and realistic because Phase 2 had a way of turning even simple assignments into something that required much more time and focus than expected. I like how you admitted struggling at first but still finding a way to recover because once assignments begin stacking up in IS101, catching back up can feel overwhelming very quickly. The part about A6 giving students room to think independently stood out to me because that assignment felt less like following instructions and more like learning how to solve actual workplace problems.
ReplyDeleteYour explanation of AutoFill was also very good because it really is one of the most useful tools in Excel. Before learning it, typing formulas repeatedly across multiple cells felt unnecessarily repetitive and increased the chance of making mistakes. I also liked how you connected these skills to future business and school work because it shows that the assignments were not just about completing tasks for a grade, but also about learning practical skills that can actually be applied later on.
By the end of Phase 2, I started realizing that Excel is challenging not because of the math itself, but because the program expects users to follow a very specific type of logic. Sometimes the answer may still be correct, but Excel only accepts the process it was designed to recognize. Hopefully Phase 3 goes more smoothly for everyone, although I would not be surprised if PowerPoint introduces a completely different type of challenge before the semester ends.
I'm elated to hear you found A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer as one of the most helpful assignments you have been assigned ^_^ The final paragraph of your first sentence perfectly articulates a corner stone of my capstone assignments.
ReplyDeleteMaking mistakes is part of the learning process -- and life in general -- what you do after a mistake is what defines you :-)
You will finish Phase 3 and IS101-3003/5, Spring 2026 strong!
Hi Avery, I agree with you the Autofill is really handy and useful, it save us time. Also, A6 was fun; it really does push us to think more independently instead of just following step-by-step instructions which helps build real problem-solving skills.
ReplyDeleteHi Avery, I'm glad you were able to catch up! AutoFill Options does save a lot of time in filling in information that only require minor adjustments. Keep up the good work and finish strong!
ReplyDeleteI agree on students not having problem solving skills because everything is spoon fed to them by their instructors or professors. A6 was a challenge in it of itself but made me realize I needed the skills that is being thought and to think about the answers that I send out. Hopefully Phase 3 treats you good and would be a breeze now that you are caught up.
ReplyDeleteHello Avery. A6 really did help with exercising the problem solving parts in our brain. We're kind of used to mindlessly finishing assignments for the grade especially if you have prior experience with other classes. I love the autofill tool, it takes a weigh off the user's shoulders, I wonder if that was a tool excel has had from the beginning? I'm sure you'll be able to finish off strong in the way you want to!
ReplyDeleteHi Avery, I agree that AutoFill is a very useful feature because it saves time and helps reduce errors when working with formulas.
ReplyDeleteHello Avery, I agree A6 was a very helpful assignment! Autofill is one of those features I never gave much thought too but it's such useful tool and it has already saved so much time.
ReplyDeleteAvery, I actually agree with what you said about A6. It felt more realistic compared to normal assignments because we had to figure things out ourselves instead of following every little step. Also AutoFill honestly saved so much time in Excel.
ReplyDeleteHi Avery, one I really like your blog it's unique and two that's a very good point with the A6 assignment we were allowed some creative freedom. The only thing that I was sad about was that my colors of choice did not look good on grayscale. Autofill is great I can't imagine retyping or repasting formulas over and over if I was to create a huge spreadsheet.
ReplyDeleteHi Avery. A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer is definitely a helpful assignment. It has given us practice in making charts and tables look professional. I also like the look of your blog post.
ReplyDeleteHey Avery, although A6 in my opinion was one of the more difficult assignments, it also was one of the most helpful. Being able to make these mistakes and think of what exactly was done wrong is perfect when it comes to learning something new. So although difficult it was beneficial.
ReplyDeleteHi Avery, I really like your new design on your blogpost, and yeah Phase 2 was definitely a memorable learning experience, especially A6 and LabSims. AutoFill is probably the greatest thing on Excel, it makes everything so much easier. By seeing the effort you put on your new design, I'm pretty sure you have finish strong in this class!
ReplyDeleteHey Avery, I like that Professor Wu said that he wouldn't give us answers and that's cool, I appreciated even more when he helped it be understood. No spoon feeding here :)

This assignment was perfect for giving students creative liberty to design their workbooks how they want, while also completing the needed tasks at hand." I love this because it pretty much summed up my thoughts about this class. You worded it perfectly! I think it is both difficult but rewarding. It makes us struggle but also learn so much more and better unlike other classes.
ReplyDeleteHello Avery. I really like the look of your blog, it feels very unique! I agree, A6 was great. It was nice being able to think and problem solve with minimal help.
